The Best Plants for Your Home (Even If You’re a Little Forgetful)

The Best Plants for Your Home (Even If You’re a Little Forgetful)

Let me be honest: I was never a “plant person.” I admired other people’s leafy living rooms on Instagram while barely keeping a basil plant alive on my windowsill. But somewhere between my third real estate showing of the day and my Sunday cycle class (shoutout to Brandon! @iambrandongreen), I realized how much a good houseplant can transform a space—and your mood.

Whether you live in a sun-soaked high-rise or a cozy city studio, the right plant can add life, color, and a sense of calm to your home. And no, you don’t need a green thumb to make it work. Here are a few of my favorite low-fuss, high-reward plants that will look great in your home (and won’t judge you if you forget to water them every now and then).

🌿 Snake Plant (aka Sansevieria)
This one is practically indestructible. It loves neglect, thrives in low light, and adds a sculptural vibe to any room. I recommend keeping one near the entryway—it’s like a welcome mat, but chic.

☀️ ZZ Plant
This one’s for my fellow overachievers who don’t have time for daily watering rituals. The ZZ plant is glossy, green, and can tolerate almost anything. Put it on a bookshelf or a forgotten corner. It'll still thrive.

💧 Pothos (aka Devil’s Ivy)
Pothos is like the best kind of friend: easygoing, stylish, and happy anywhere. Let it trail from a high shelf or pop it in a hanging planter. Plus, watching the vines grow feels oddly satisfying.

🌵 Succulents (but choose wisely)
Not all succulents are created equal. Go for jade plants or echeveria—sturdy and stylish. Keep them by a window and water once every couple of weeks. Maybe keep one by your coffee maker. It can be the calm before a caffeine storm.

🌱 Peace Lily
If you’re looking for a little drama (but the good kind), the Peace Lily has you covered. Its white blooms are elegant, and it lets you know when it needs water by drooping. I appreciate that kind of honesty in a plant.

Plants aren’t just decor—they’re part of your home’s vibe. They soften hard corners, add warmth to modern spaces, and make you feel grounded (literally). You don’t need to go full urban jungle overnight. Start with one, see how it makes you feel, and build from there.

If you’re a new homeowner or renter looking to make your space feel yours, a little greenery goes a long way. And if you ever need plant styling tips for a showing—or just want to send me a picture of your thriving ZZ—I’m here for it.
